This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach art at an inner-city location. I see over 500 students a week and each student deserves a well-stocked classroom and a variety of materials to better explore their world and learn about life through the arts! As 100% free lunch district, resources are always extremely limited. My yearly budget is $2.00 per student which makes it very difficult to provide students with interesting, engaging, and creative projects. Multiple times over the year I purchase supplies out of my own pocket to provide students with new experiences but these projects would help me to reach all students. Just this year alone I hosted a gallery walk where each students' artwork was on display. Over 500 original masterpieces lined our hallways. From Van Gogh to Picasso to Romero Britto, artists from all walks of life were represented and showcased.
There are no better students than my own.
I have seen them grow over the past 4 years. I start with them in 9th and teach them until they reach 12th grade. The relationship we create and maintain is one of the main reasons I continue to give my all in an inner-city district!
My Project
Students will be able to use this portfolio cabinet to safely house their artwork. When they create their masterpieces they will be able to place their artwork into their own space. This will facilitate student learning by allowing students to independently retrieve their artwork when they come into class. It will also create a sense of responsibility as they will also have to place their artwork back in their designated spot at the conclusion of class.
This portfolio cabinet will be invaluable as each of my seven classes daily passing through will have access to this resource and be able to efficiently store and acquire their artwork.
As I continue to integrate dynamic art projects into my classroom it is imperative that these students have an equal opportunity to safely and effectively store their artwork. This will help creatively engage them in the arts. Thank you for supporting my students’ artistry.
