This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Menstrual products are expensive. Some of our students barely have the money for lunch, much less an eight-dollar box of tampons. Everyone deserves to have the proper menstrual supplies and I want to make sure all of my students have access to them. Essential hygiene products are a priority for the health, dignity, and welfare of all humans who menstruate.

Emergencies happen, and having a supply of menstrual products, yoga pants, and jogger pants in case someone needs them is incredibly important.

No one should have to go home if they get their period or have some other issue where they need emergency pants.

We also need emergency deodorants. Over the last five years, I have given away over 400 personal-size deodorants; it is the #1 personal hygiene product requested in my classroom.

It is interesting how I have seen the stigma change in my classroom; I have 120 students who identify as male, and this fall, one of my male students came up and whispered, "my girlfriend needs one of those (pointing at the tampons or pads)"
