This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a high school serving students in grades 9-12. We are in an urban neighborhood. Many of our students immigrated from another country or are the children of immigrants. Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school.

Many of my students are college-bound, hard-working, highly motivated, and dream of success!

They are awesome! Most are from lower socioeconomic status but have the endurance to make it to 12th grade and most aim to go to college and get a degree. They dream of becoming everything from doctors to teachers to lawyers and entrepreneurs. I am the proud teacher librarian at my school.

Many of our students are economically disadvantaged and come from low income households. We also have students who are homeless or are unaccompanied minors, alone in this country. I have an area in our library that I call the Care Closet, where students can take what they need without having to ask and be able to keep their pride. These basic items like soap, toothpaste, shampoo and combs are items that many of us take for granted. For a student in need, these things can make the difference in survival. A donation to this project directly helps a student in need of essential items. In particular, I am asking for our most requested items like pads and tampons to refill our Care Closet. Thanks in advance for your generosity.
