My Students
I am blessed to work in a school for students with multiple severe disabilities. I am the Performing Arts teacher for a variety of students with different classifications and cognitive levels. The students in our school are divided into three different populations with very different abilities. Our students range from having Autism, Down Syndrome, Learning Disabilities and/or medically fragile in wheel chairs.
I will be focusing on making choices between activities, instruments, and jobs, as well as putting on several performance throughout this school year.
We will be planning a holiday show, talent show, and a musical production. My students enjoy the sensory input from playing musical instruments and performing on stage. They find great pride in seeing the finished product of a show they have put so much time and effort in to.
My Project
The keyboard and band items, such as the bells and triangles, will help the students perform songs and acts in our school-wide shows. Several students have a strong talent for the keyboard or piano. These students will be able to showcase their talents using these items. They will plan and host a Holiday Show and a school-wide musical focusing on Disney Broadway shows!
Many of my students have a fun and calming experience in Performing Arts.
They make choices of instruments and music. These materials will help give them more and appropriate options when deciding what to do.
