My students need a pair of condenser microphones in order to broadcast their singing to an audience in difficult acoustic sound environments such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, concourses and outdoors.
The Choral Program at our high school and middle school serves approximately 200 students each year. The program includes 6th Grade Chorus, 7/8th Grade Chorus, High School Chorus (9-12), the Soundwaves (high school swing choir), Soundripples (middle school swing choir), the Larks (male acappella group) and La La's (female acappella group).
Singing is the motivator that brings my students to school everyday.
My students sing throughout the day. They spend countless extra hours after school developing their performance skills. The student ensembles perform at the school and in our community 4 to upwards of 14 times each year- in the local park, retirement homes, Saturday clubs, sports events, at the school, and other places in capital region. These students deserve the equipment to support their motivation to excel.
Our school district makes a difference in students’ lives. With 40% minority students we are one of the more diverse school districts in the state. 61% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch and 48% come from single parent homes.
My Project
These microphones are important to the students' success in performance and self-evaluation. Our programs often take place in sound environments that are less than optimal for singing: outdoor parks, noisy underground concourses, gymnasiums, and cafeterias. These condenser microphones and their accompanying boom stands can also be placed to help students broadcast their sound while doing complex choreography in show choir. Finally, the high quality of these microphones allows them to double as good recording microphones- this will give the students a realistic measure of their sound in performance and rehearsal so that they can reflect and give feedback about their singing.
