This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 5th grade students are amazing, curious, and ready to learn. Many of them come from challenging backgrounds, and our classroom library is one of the few places they can access a variety of books. I want to build a diverse and engaging collection of books that inspire a love of reading and learning.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief has diverse learning tie-ins.

The Greek mythology and world culture ties in with social studies. Character development, plot, and figurative language ties-in with language arts. Identity, learning differences, and fitting in ties-in with SEL. In addition, this novel encourages empathy and demonstrates the importance of teamwork and resilience.
