My Students

My students are junior high and high school instrumental music students in a STEAM-centered charter school in Utah. We are a Title I school and, as such, a large portion of our student body qualifies for free or reduced-cost lunch.

Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.

My students come from a culture that is very music-centered. Here at school, they are trying to advance their love of music by learning an instrument and performing in a large ensemble.

My Project

My percussion students are very excited to be in their own class this year. Being combined with the band and orchestra makes it difficult for the percussionists to learn the basic rudimental skills needed. And the percussion parts in band and orchestra music are not very challenging.

These instruments will give my percussion students the opportunity to play a wider variety of music that focuses on the skills specific to their section.

Music written for percussion ensemble will incorporate the rudimental skills they learn in class. Many of the songs require instruments that our school doesn’t currently own. The instruments requested will help to fill that gap.
