This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For many of my students, fine motor skills are something that they struggle with. That means that holding a pencil and correctly forming letters is a difficult task. Additional resources for teaching the kids proper letter formation is a need in my classroom. We do not have a designated handwriting curriculum that we use, so after kindergarten a lot of that practice falls away. During the second semester of second grade, we start learning cursive, but they need a strong foundation in print letters before we can move onto cursive.

Learning to print with mastery will set my students up for success.

Appropriate penmanship skills will make writing easier and they'll be able to focus on their learning, not their letter formation.

My students are a diverse group of learners. A little over one third of my kiddos are ELLs and the rest of my class is made up of students who are in the varying stages of reading and writing development. They all want to learn and impress their families and school community.
