Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a reading recovery teacher at P.S. 63 in the South Bronx. I teach in a low income neighborhood. 99% of the children at my school are entitled to and receive free lunch.
In order to be able to learn and write, many of our first graders need pencils. It can be difficult when children do not come to school with supplies to work with. Many times those supplied in the classroom are lost, broken or inadvertently taken home; thus diminishing the teacher\'s inventory. Too much time is wasted with children looking for pencils, borrowing from others or sitting and doing nothing until they are noticed to be without.
I am requesting pencils, which are over sized for young beginning writers. Pencils are a necessity in order to be able to learn.
Thank you for your consideration, time and support of NYC\'s children.
