My Students

I teach an integrated kindergarten class of twenty students in Cleveland, Ohio where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. This class has a range of disabilities, including typical students, students with intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.

Even at this early age, some of the students have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school and being able to focus on learning.

Our district is focusing on children with trauma and how it plays a negative role on students' learning.

Despite all of these obstacles, the children have a thirst and love of learning.

My Project

My students need an electric pencil sharpener of high-quality and no eraser thick laddie pencils to write with everyday after centers. Writing is an important part of kindergarten and having the proper equipment is essential. The quality of equipment we currently have is inadequate . My students are also learning how to function independently in a large class setting. Teaching children how to be self sufficient is very critical at this age for both the regular education and special education students. They will learn to be responsible for their own writing supplies and the upkeep of the pencils and sharpener.
