My Students

My students use interactive social studies notebooks in class everyday. I would love to have enough pencils and pencil sharpeners to last throughout the school year.

I teach five classes of social studies to about 150 fifth graders in South Carolina.

Our school is at the moderate poverty level with about 60% of our students qualifying for free/reduced lunches. We will use the pencils for making social studies interactive notebooks and flip books in class. My students are energetic and enjoy learning about United States history!!

My Project

I want my students to always have access to pencils and pencil sharpeners throughout the year. My students make flip books, use interactive notebooks and work together in groups all year long. At the beginning of the year most of the students have the supplies they need for each class, but by October many of the supplies they need are gone. When the students switch classes they are suppose to have all the supplies they need but this doesn't always happen. Instructional time is wasted when students have to go back to their homeroom to get a pencil. I would like to have enough pencils throughout the year so that if a student forgets his/her pencils, I will have them available to borrow while he/she is in my classroom.

This project will help my students to focus more on learning U.S.

history instead of whether or not they have all of their supplies. By having pencils and pencil sharpeners in my classroom, my students won't waste valuable class time going back to their homeroom for supplies.
