Pencils, Glue, and Big Ideas: Stocking Our New Art Room
Help me give my students the basic supplies like pencils, Sharpies, glue sticks, scissors, and erasers, so they can complete their first three projects of the year.
This fall, I’m stepping into a brand-new role as the second art teacher at our campus—and with that exciting opportunity comes a completely empty classroom. No pencils, no scissors, no Sharpies… just a big empty room and a ton of creative potential.
My middle schoolers are ready to dive into hands-on art projects that build skills in drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture.
We’ll be exploring everything from zentangles and portraits to watercolor and clay-inspired creations. But in order to make those projects happen, we need the basics—pencils, glue sticks, scissors, Sharpies, erasers, X-acto knives, and aprons (because middle schoolers + art = mess). We’ll also use storage bins, Ziploc bags, and baby wipes to keep our space organized and manageable.
These aren’t fancy extras—they’re the foundational tools that help students express themselves, take creative risks, and build confidence in their abilities. Every supply you help provide puts a real tool in a student’s hands and says, “Your creativity matters.”
