Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth-grade students at our school are an amazing group. They are very curious about everything we learn about. The students really enjoy video games, kickball, art and spending time in the classroom contributing to community circle. We have a diverse population and are able to learn from each other because of it.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best varies greatly.
We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are!
My Project
Currently, our classroom is without an electronic sharpener. We have been using small hand held sharpeners to help us; however, they are not very quick and often lead to distractions when we can be learning. To go with the sharpener, we are also requesting pencils and erasers (because sometimes we do make a mistake; that's how learning happens!) Recently, as teachers, we have been sparked by the movement to provide students with pencils without question because you never know what a person is going through. We, as a class, would appreciate the opportunity to further develop our education with sharpened pencils at our fingertips.
