This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The children of our school come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood, however, they do not see themselves as such. Our students are willing to work hard as long as they are challenged and encouraged to do so. If you were to walk into our school, you would hear students working and talking with vivid vocabulary because we have teachers who set high expectations for them.
Our school is filled with students who are eager to learn and sponges of knowledge.
The students' families are mainly from island countries and may have limited knowledge themselves. However, they value the education that is brought to their children from dedicated teachers.
My Project
My students need to be able to communicate, and in order to complete their daily tasks they need a pencil. Many students are struggling to arrive at school on time and sometimes that is hard enough. We are requesting pencils, Sharpie markers, crayons and colored pencils to brighten up their day!
Pencils are a necessity, a tool of the trade that they are in desperate need!
Once they are here, we need to help them with the materials they need to be successful.
The Sharpie markers are used for our Kindness Rocks project, where we decorate rocks and deliver them to people in school or the community who need a little pick me up! They can brighten someones day with a beautifully decorated rock!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
