Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are now a combination of English speakers and English language learners that want to become bilingual. They are just beginning to learn to read, write, and count in both languages. My students will be exposed to the material in English and Spanish. Our school is a Title I. I have to lend them books so their parents can read to them at home.
My students are energetic and curious learners.
They are learning to develop their own opinions. They enjoy finding patterns and playing card games that develop their mental math and subitizing skills.
My Project
I am constantly giving pencils to my students. After finding small pencils all around the classroom, I've come to the realization that small golf pencils are the way to go. Students have a better grasp of the pencils and this writing tool fits better in their hands.
I want to expose my students to Digi Blocks so they understand place value.
Students always struggle at the end of first grade when addition and subtraction with regrouping is introduced. I'd like to try Digi Blocks to help students with these concepts. Students will get to regroup without carrying or borrowing.
