My students are amazing and resilient. Recently about 80% of my students saw devastation due to Hurricane Harvey. Our area received 60 inches of rain over a period of four days. Many saw their homes and most of their belongings destroyed. Two of the schools in our district also flooded and were deemed irreparable. Due to this situation those two schools were housed at other campuses last year. My students this year were in classrooms with an average of 38 students per room last year. Yet, they worked hard to learn and make the best of a difficult situation. Previously our district reported about 48 percent of students were economically disadvantaged. This will certainly grow as our families work to recover from this experience.
Please help us replenish supplies needed for our students to be successful.
Currently we need pencils and cap erasers to work daily in our classroom.
My Project
Every day our students need pencils and cap erasers to be successful in their math class. We are constantly working problems, participating in activities and stations that require pencils and erasers. We use pencils because in math we make mistakes, learn, erase, and continue. We do not use pens because it may take us several tries before we get it right.
We appreciate your help in making sure every student has an opportunity to participate in our fun activities that engage learning.
Pencils and cap erasers do not last long in our classroom. Some parents are finding it difficult to replace supplies since many are still rebuilding their homes after we were flooded last year. Thank you for your help.
