My Students

My students are energetic, dedicated, and hard-working. They have big dreams, and want to succeed. We are a Title I school.

This means that many come to school ready to learn, but come from low-income homes.

They have most of their needs met by the school. My students are writers, and to be fully supported in the writing process, they need uninterrupted access to writing utensils. I am very proud of the progress they have made in writing so far this year, and I can't wait to see what they do next!

My Project

I am requesting two durable, quiet, electric X-ACTO ProX pencil sharpeners and CARL Angel pencil sharpeners, and some new pencils for my students. We only have a manual one that is on its last leg! My fifth graders need sharpened pencils for paper assignments and writing first drafts. At the end of each day I sharpen all the pencils so they can be ready for the students to begin their day with minimal interruptions.

Instructional time is very important and should not be wasted sharpening pencils.

My students need to focus on learning important skills. Not having a reliable sharpener has created problems in the classroom. Instruction is being interrupted because our manual sharpener takes so long It also "eats" pencils. My students get frustrated, and learning is impeded.

If funded, my students will be able to let their creativity flow with minimal interruptions!
