We love our small town and wouldn't change a thing! Our school is the GREATEST! My students come from hard working families, and they know how to work hard too! As 2nd graders, we do a lot of writing and math. We are working hard to strengthen these lifelong skills, but need some tools to help us reach our goals.
My Project
This year I would like to start a new pencil management system. In years past pencils have been the bane of my existence in the classroom. Pencils were always getting lost, needing to be sharpened, and broken. I've found that we spend WAY too much time working on keeping pencils sharp and stocked. I've researched and found a system I'd like to put into place, but need some help financially getting it started. This is how it will work:
Each week students will receive 6 pencils in their pencil pouch. It is their responsibility to make sure they keep track of their pencils and keep them in good condition.
On Friday students will turn in their pencil pouch. I will have a student helper sharpen the pencils and if they returned all 6 pencils and kept them in good shape, they will receive a small prize. If they do not return all pencils, or if they have abused their pencils, they will receive a note reminding them to try harder the next week.
Each Monday students will find their pouch on their desk with 6 sharp pencils, and hopefully with a prize!
I am confident this system will motivate my students to take personally responsibility for their pencils and in the end will save precious time and resources.
