Peer Advocates Working to Support Students in Crisis

Help me give my students the tools and resources necessary to mentor struggling peers, including treats, art materials, and stress relief items that are essential for struggling students to overcome hardships.

My Project

The North Star Peer Advocacy Center is a student-run mentoring program for high school students. Successful upperclassmen are trained in restorative practices, social-emotional learning, community building, and crisis support. They then provide support for students in crisis to help them overcome hardships and create academic success through mentoring, skill building, and SMART goals.

In order to quickly build connections with students, the use of treats, stress relief manipulatives, art, and a positive environment are imperative.

These tools, including stress balls and journals, help students relax and connect more easily with their mentors. Our goal is to quickly help students overcome negative situations so they can continue academic success. On average we support 500+ students throughout the school year and the cost of supporting that many students is quite costly. Please consider helping our program continue to grow and successfully support low socioeconomic students.
