My students need pedal seats, resistance bands, and balance balls for alternative seating options.

A typical day in my classroom is very interactive. We start the morning with fun and instructional centers while I teach guided reading lessons. Even though students have engaging tasks, it can sometimes be hard to concentrate on the task given to them.
I have 18 fantastic kindergarten students this year!
My students are revved up to learn and have bubbling personalities. My students love to learn but can be easily distracted at times. One of my goals this year is to help my students learn skills needed to concentrate and complete tasks. My students are young kindergarten students who need to have the ability to move around while learning. I have a mixed population of Caucasian and African American students. Our school is a title one school. 55% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school is incredibly welcoming and supportive, but there is not always extra money for concentration aids in the classroom.
In a state where academic expectations are increasingly becoming more difficult and recess time is being reduced, my students need a healthy outlet for their energy. Students are experiencing more and more pressure at a young age to succeed, yet their opportunities to release stress are being reduced. Kindergarten students are now expected to add, subtract, decompose numbers, and read level D books by the end of the year. Our sweet children need to be taught ways to hardness their energy for their benefit. I believe this project will allow my students to find fun ways to learn! In my classroom, I try to provide my students with as many opportunities as possible to move. We learn through movement and play, but students are expected to sit and complete tasks at times. These pedal seats and other alternative seating options will allow students the flexibility to learn their way! I may not be able to give my students more recess time, but I can transform my classroom into a playground for learning!
