My students need an environment that incorporates movement to reach their enormous potentials! Flexible and alternative seating arrangements, including Hokki stools, Pedal Exercisers, high tables, and various seating options will keep them motivated and healthy!
"If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't you're right." Henry Ford. I try to instill the essence of this quote into the minds of my students each year. I feel I need to give them every opportunity to show that they CAN!
My students are so incredible!
They are a diverse group represented by many ethnicities and languages.
They love learning and are preparing to make the world a better place. They are team players that understand that teamwork leads to success and that minds working together bring about change, and change is what drives growth. They are students who see mistakes as an avenue to learning and know that with each mistake, a new lesson is learned. They are hard working and value education. They are growing each day to become the future of America. I strive to give them every opportunity to be prepared for the competitive world out there!
My Project
My goal is to create a classroom that is consistent with brain research and the needs of children in the 21st century. Alternate seating allows for just that! Research shows that when teachers allow students to choose their seating options at not only standard chairs and desks, but low and high tables, balance balls, various stools, floor cushions, and other options, they are telling them that they are the most important part of the classroom. They are also preparing them to make choices in life and guiding them in building the responsibility that is included in that! Through this process, they gain a better understanding of themselves as learners.
Just like children have different learning styles, they have different physical needs when it comes to learning.
“When the body is active, the brain is active." Fifth grade is a time when children change and grow physically, socially, and emotionally. Being a part of a classroom that gives them real life choices is preparing them for the ever-changing world they live in! I want to give my students every opportunity to succeed.
