This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." A day in my class typically starts with high-five and a bright "GOOD MORNING!". While enjoying breakfast in the classroom, we share stories about our weekend or the night before.

My 5th and 6th grade students come to school with the eagerness to learn.

When they walk into the classroom, they have an opportunity to truly be themselves. Whether it be expressing themselves through arts, sports, or sharing their love for mathematics. I have 13 wonderful students in my Special Education classroom. The students in my classroom have disabilities ranging from Specific learning disabilities to Autism Spectrum Disorder. In addition, 8 of my 13 students are English Language Learners My wonderful school is located in the heart of South Los Angeles and many of the families are considered low-income. Within the neighborhood, the students are exposed to a variety of challenges on a daily basis (gang violence, poverty, drugs, etc.) However, all of these factors do not hinder their passion for learning.

My Project

In my classroom, I have a total of 10 boys and 3 girls! A classroom full of sports-loving-energetic 5th/6th grade students! Every single one of my students look forward to P.E. period. Whether it be a friendly game of kick-ball, dribbling exercises, or a quick relay race. My students love ANYTHING that has to do with hands-on activities. The resources provided will provide me with the opportunity to plan and teach more P.E. activities. My students will have the opportunity to not only learn how to engage in team sports, but work on sportsmanship and social skills. Having the cones will provide my students with the structure needed during P.E. activities. Beanbags can be used as tool for relay racing, throwing practice and even a fidget toy (to help my students concentrate during a classroom lesson).

The donations will teach my students team-building exercises, social-skills and sportsmanship.

It will also work on their motor skills (i.e. throwing, kicking, juggling, etc.) It will encourage my students to play outside more and learn about their health. Additionally, it will foster their love of sports, fitness and health!
