My Project
We have a blended Pre-K program and over 550 K-2 students that includes several with special needs. Physical Education class can feel intimidating for students in wheelchairs, walkers, braces or with other physical limitations. My desire is for every single student to believe they can be successful and have an exciting experience in the gym no matter what their physical ability may be.
Our younger students and English language learners require color association and visual aides to facilitate their skill development.
The items in this project make transitions easier with arrows and color coordination with equipment which allows for the maximum amount of play time. Equipment that is soft like the foam frisbees and bowling pin sets reduce fear of being hurt and the students enjoy the texture. The poly spots are used so often for space separation, station recognition and a multitude of games. The split ropes will make the jump rope unit feel like an engaging and inclusive challenge for my 4 students in wheelchairs and walkers!
