This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students complain that at home all they do is sit around and are lazy. With the obesity rate in children soaring I have a huge responsibility to my students to keep them moving.

I have a classroom of 26 students.

The majority are English Language Learner who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work. Some are latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity. I have a couple of students who attend speech class and 2 students who attend our Learning Center for a portion of the day.

My Project

The majority of my students do not play after school sports and do not know the rules to simple games like kickball or basketball. With the growing rate of obesity it is my responsibility to get them up and moving around. PE and recess encourage teamwork and sportsmanship which translates into the classroom. Also, kids who get exercise do better in class. They become more focused and have more controlled energy.

Not only does this project attack obesity and promote healthy living, it also teaches teamwork which helps in the classroom. Thank you in advance.
