Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
CHS participates in PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support In Schools) as part of our social-emotional learning curriculum. We support our student's positive mental health by creating a safe environment where they feel supported and heard. We use the 4:1 process of making sure we have 4 positive comments to a classroom if we need to have 1 correction, such as "please put away your cell phone" (correction) and then "thank you for wearing your id", "excellent answer", "so glad you did x y z", and "great job on that assignment".
We have a physical reward system where students who act in a positive manner, work diligently, or help another student can get golden tickets which are traded in for rewards.
We have over 3,000 students in our high school with varying interests. We have received rewards that are sports-related, art-related, and technology-related. We have a group of students who love comics, video games, and specifically Super Smash Bros.
This project is for some plushies, games, and LEGO sets that are Super Mario-themed. Students love plushies as rewards and will work hard to be able to get the golden tickets to receive these items. Having a system of praise with a physical component of a reward is such a positive thing for our student's mental health. It helps them feel valued and gives them an item that they can be proud of.
