My Students
My students come from a rural area with an ethnically diverse population. The vast majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic status as approximately 80% of our students have free or reduced lunch. In fact, many of these students are potentially the first in their family to attend college.
My students love getting positive feedback, whether it be from their peers, teacher, or other faculty members.
Even though they are in high school, they get excited to receive recognition for their efforts and improvement.
My Project
I am trying to provide different incentive activities for our 9th grade students who have shown improvement in on-task behavior in the classroom. Students who have not received a behavior referral for the quarter will be invited to participate in free play at the end of the day for each quarter. Without these items, we will not be able to host such an event.
The parachute and Stride-R will help promote cooperation, develop coordination and improve communication amongst students, while also providing an excellent way for students to be physically active.
For students who prefer less physical activity, the board games (chess, checkers, Mastermind and Battleship) will provide them an opportunity to engage in critical thinking and strategy games with their peers.
Without the help of the generous donors, my students will not have a variety of activities on the incentive day. It is my hope that these incentive days will motivate students to increase their time on task in the classroom, which will in turn increase their academic achievement.
