My Students

Our students are a happy, upbeat group of kids who love learning new skills. They have a variety of different learning disabilities ranging from ADHD to Autism. Given the challenges they face with their disabilities, they still strive to do well in their courses and take pride in their work.

We celebrate when students reach their academic and behavior goals and promote a positive atmosphere for a growth mindset to blossom.

My class learns not only academics but life skills that students in the general ed setting may take for granted. Every achievement, no matter how small, is a win that is acknowledged in my classroom.

My Project

This school year, we did not have money in the budget to purchase supplies. Printer paper is needed in order to print handouts, graphic organizers, tests, quizzes and many other tools needed for class. Our class doesn't currently have paper and since many of our students are visual learners, it would be helpful in aiding their learning and understanding if they have the handouts, etc. printed out for them to see in front of them. The classroom has also run out of hanging folders as well. Each student has a file folder where they put all of their classwork in. It teaches them to stay organized and helps them keep track of past work and projects. Since the file will fill over the course of the year, it's really helpful for kids to have their own file. Some of them are sharing files and this can sometimes lead to confusion and missing class work.

We have a PBIS system in place to celebrate wins in the classroom and reward on task behavior with tickets as well as A Student Of The Week Award to recognize hard work done during the week.

Since the students are visual learners, having a ticket they can see and touch to remind them they are doing a good job is very helpful for my students. Each week we have a raffle of different class items or they can use their tickets to "buy" classroom items as well. The kids enjoy it and it works well in the classroom. The Student Of The Week Award is an award for each class to recognize a student that displayed a growth mindset during the week. Kids enjoy being recognized for their handwork and it is a tradition I would like to continue.
