Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is in our second year of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) implementation. Since we've incorporated R.O.A.R. (Respect, Ownership, Attitude, Responsibility) as our model for PBIS, my students have worked hard to make appropriate/commendable choices throughout their school day.

As my students' behaviors have improved, so has their self-esteem and they deserve to be recognized for this growth.

My pride in them has grown these past months. To show them my appreciation, I have created a PBIS store in my classroom my students visit at the end of each week. We have compiled a list of treats and prizes they can choose from when shopping in our PBIS store. Students earn points throughout the week for showing RESPECT, taking OWNERSHIP, showing positive ATTITUDE, and/or taking RESPONSIBILITY.

My students have also learned to save their "cash" for larger items that are available in the classroom store or to use for PBIS events held at school--an unexpected fringe benefit of a lesson in economics. Not only are my students rewarded, but they also have the opportunity to manage their "cash" to save for larger incentives.

As you may already know, we are a Title I school, and several of my students reside in a low socio-economic area. Some of the treats I provide in my PBIS store may be the only snacks they have for the day, aside from the breakfasts and lunches provided by the school. Moreover, their parents certainly would not purchase what would be unnecessary for them like the plush animals. Please help me fill up my PBIS shelves with treats and rewards for my students with your donations. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in
