PBIS Rewards and Creating a Classroom Economy

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The PBIS program enables our staff to reward students with points for positive behaviors, which they can save up to spend like money, learning not only saving and budgeting, but incentivizing making strong decisions at school. Our students show pride, safety, and respect. We will use the resin "lucky ducks" as our tokens to collect. After 10 ducks students can choose to save or spin our prize wheel for a special reward. Not every prize spot has a tangible reward, but....

A crucial program for encouraging participation and engagement is our PBIS Store, in which we stock fun, popular items that first graders love and can "purchase" with their PBIS points.

For many students, the PBIS Points and Store is the only way they have to purchase small items at school. It also shows them ways to save "money" and budget. Your donations will help sustain this program into next year, stocking the store with fun items to keep first graders engaged and committed to practicing pride, safety, and respectful behaviors every day. The magnetic holders will be labeled for each student and will allow "lucky ducks" to be stored in a central location out of the way until the store opens, thus reducing the chance that they are lost or become a distraction. I know this one part of our new classroom economy will keep students engaged throughout the year. It will also become a powerful financial literacy tool to allow for counting up, subtracting down, and finding "how many more" needed for the reward they would like.
