This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are just plain awesome! Regardless of their daily struggles they always prove to persevere! For many of my students, our classroom is their second home, even as uts moved into the virtual world. It is their safe space where they can escape the many pressures of adolescence and just be themselves.
Rather than the easy route of giving up, my students choose to come together, to push themselves and to persevere, no matter how far they are behind academically.
They are dedicated students who continuously push themselves to be better.
100% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Once you get them excited about a topic or strategy, they are totally engaged in what we are doing. I want to give them that spark for all that they do, which will become a challenge as we transition to the remote setting. My goal is to set them up for success by providing them with the tools they need to access the curriculum effectively at home during the global pandemic.
My Project
A Positive behavior system encourages students who demonstrate positive behaviors in and out of the classroom to continue to do so by earning choice activity time at the end of each week!
This system has quickly changed many of the disruptive, distracting behaviors that happen in school because it focuses on acknowledging the students who are doing the right thing, just because its the right thing to do!
It automatically curbs problem behaviors that may take away from the majority of the class and encourages students to self correct their own behaviors by following other peers modeling the correct behavior.
Each week for 30 minutes on a Friday those students who have earned the reward (which is usually 85-95% of students) can pick one of 6 activities that they desire and get to relax, and have fun doing their chosen activity with friends and teachers! These art supplies in this project will allow students who choose the arts/crafts room a variety of art projects to indulge in each week!
