My Students
I work in a school with over 400 students in K4-4th grade. Our school includes over 60% free or reduced-price lunch recipients. We seriously have some of the best students in our small-town elementary school.
We are working on a PBIS revamp and are excited to introduce our new acknowledgment system to our students at the start of this school year.
We have centered our focus on three rules: "Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible" We call it our school's way! As part of our PBIS Tier 1 system, the students are taught the expectations in a variety of settings. Through this, we have utilized a PBIS initiative system with the students to challenge them to focus on being good citizens.
My Project
Our students are focusing on becoming positive and productive students and future community leaders. We are working hard to reward their efforts, and one of our initiatives is for all students to have the opportunity to be recognized for their positive behavior choices.
With our PBIS revamp for this upcoming school year, we have decided to have a character trait focus for each month.
Students will have lessons and activities that correlate with each trait. We will have a bulletin board that the students can interact with. This is where the cardstock, lamination, and border come into play. We want this bulletin board to catch their eye and be durable.
We are moving to a punch card acknowledgement system. Students will earn punches on their punch cards for being safe, respectful, and responsible. This will help us keep this positive reinforcement incentive going and the students continually striving to succeed academically and behaviorally throughout the school year. This will teach our students about positive behavior, leadership, and consistency through our PBIS initiative. We want to offer a variety of ways to organize their punch cards within the classroom. This is where the binder rings and command hooks will be utilized. We would even like to offer the upper grades the chance to travel with their cards using lanyards.
For non classrooms teachers, we will have tickets on hand that they can pass out to students to acknowledge their positive behavior choice and then they can turn that in to their classroom teacher for a hole punch. This will also be helpful for the young students who will not transition with their cards. Once a student has filled their punch card they will have the opportunity to choose a classroom reward coupon.
