PBIS Game Room: Rewarding Positive Behavior with Play

Help me give my students a PBIS game room with TVs for Nintendo gaming, a foosball table, and ping pong table—rewarding 1,700 students at Hamden High for positive behavior, great attendance, and academic success.

My Project

At Hamden High School, we’re committed to recognizing and rewarding students who show up, do the right thing, and contribute to a positive school community. Through our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, we emphasize and celebrate respectful, responsible, and engaged behavior throughout the school year. Our 1,700 students are regularly acknowledged for meeting school-wide expectations in academics, attendance, and behavior—and we’re constantly finding new ways to elevate those incentives.

To take this initiative to the next level, we are building a PBIS Game Room—a welcoming, student-centered space where students who meet PBIS goals can decompress, socialize, and enjoy well-earned free time during designated periods.

The game room will be a high-impact incentive designed to motivate students and reinforce positive behavior across all grades.

The space will be equipped with:

Large-screen TVs that will be used for classic Nintendo and other retro gaming systems—encouraging social play and stress relief between classes.

A foosball table, which promotes fun, teamwork, and a break from academic demands.

A ping pong table, giving students a physical outlet to recharge and enjoy friendly competition.

By providing access to this space through our PBIS reward system, we’re creating a culture where students not only feel seen for their efforts but are motivated to maintain high standards of behavior and engagement. This space also helps build social-emotional skills, strengthens peer relationships, and encourages students to stay connected to the school community.

In a large high school like ours, where over 1,700 students walk the halls each day, opportunities for connection and recognition are vital. With your help, we can turn this vision into a reality—one that recognizes student excellence and promotes a positive school climate for all.
