Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
To survive in this world, it's imperative to know the basics of banking. However, too many children don't get the firsthand practice with writing checks and balancing their accounts, which often leads to bounced checks or worse problems once they become old enough to open their own checking account. Please don't let this become the fate of my students! You can help me to prepare them to be responsible adults by bringing CHECKBOOK MATH to my classroom.
CHECKBOOK MATH is a kit that provides teachers with 30 checkbooks filled with blank checks and check registers that kids can fill out. It also comes with overhead transparencies (so I can demonstrate concepts on an overhead projector to the entire class) and other teacher materials so that I can facilitate CHECKBOOK MATH in my classroom.
It helps kids to relate numbers to real-life situations. However, since numerical operations and use of decimals is often tricky for children to master, CHECKBOOK MATH will allow them to have experience using these important mathematic concepts in a meaningful way since they will be writing checks for things they wish to purchase in my classroom store (which I need your help stocking with items ten year-old boys and girls will love).
