My Students

My students are 9th graders in an inner-city, public high school. Over 70% of the students are from low-income families.

My physics students love any activity that involves their hands and minds.

I am always on the lookout for fun activities to incorporate into their social/emotional learning.

My Project

I have a very popular sensory area in my classroom that my high school students use throughout the class period. In this area there are flexible seating options, games, puzzles and sensory objects that have had calming effects on my students.

My students have requested more items for this safe area that has nurtured their independence and academic success.

My students will learn how to recognize and manage their emotions, demonstrate caring and concern for others, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions and handle challenging situations constructively. Students benefit by establishing and developing positive relationships with others.

I have students every day that use this area to take a break or quietly work on an assignment by themselves or with a classmate. Other students just need to sit and close their eyes for five minutes before continuing on.
