Help me give my students books to read. We have started an after school book club, and we need books to read. Our club has mostly K-2 students and needs funding for early chapter books, please.
As a Reading Specialist, I try to inspire our kids to read an assortment of books. Our students come from a high-poverty rural area, with limited access to a variety of books/reading materials. While we have a small local library, our parents' working hours do not permit them to take their children to borrow books.
I love our students!
They are eager to learn, friendly, and enjoy the outdoors. Our kids are excited to share their weekend adventures. In the fall and winter are tales of school football games and snow sports. Spring and summer bring on stories about baseball, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling.
Our hope is to provide more reading materials for our students. We want our students to graduate with a world of opportunity open to them, and reading is the key. Once that love of reading is sparked, it is great to hear kids ask, "May I keep this book, please?" We hope DonorsChoose is the way we can get more books to our kids!
My Project
Our youngest students needed an after school activity and asked for a Book Club. Students are already meeting once a week, reading along with a teacher, sharing fun stories! During the club meetings, the kids enjoy discussing characters and themes, developing comprehension skills that are vital to good reading.
We are turning to DonorsChoose to help our students develop that life-long love of reading early through our Patriot Page Turners reading club.
We have selected a variety of texts for our students to read. We have chapter books with science, animal, and fantasy themes. Thank you for considering our project.
