My Students

My students love being able to learn in different ways. Who says that learning has to take place in a desk? As the world changes, so does the way that we teach our students. Over the years I have slowly added to my flexible seating in my classroom. I tried it with a class of all boys and I saw a difference in a matter of weeks.

My students are active learners who are highly motivated when presented with an engaging lesson.

The students will agree, they get excited to learn when they are able to move around and not confined to a chair. With being in eighth grade, my students will always be moving or working in groups. Collaboration is huge in Middle School. This will allow them to work in groups and allow them to challenge each other in different ways.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting on yoga ball chairs at their desks. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. These two sets of tables will be able to hold four students each. This will help when we are completing group work or just regular day activities. Students can even pull these tables out to the hall to have a little more quiet time when needed. The tables are light, but durable!

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
