My Project
Picture an elementary school where every step brings joy, with colorful signs sharing messages about kindness and doing your best. Around each corner, you'll find words that encourage and inspire. Our garden Story walk will share wisdom about growth and never giving up. Bright markers throughout the school will remind students they can learn and achieve anything.
I'm requesting a Genmitsu 4040-PRO MAX CNC machine to use with students to create these inspiring signs that will turn our hallways into paths of possibility.
Our school's mission is to create an inclusive and restorative community where every student feels valued and empowered to grow. Daily, our diverse learners— including English language learners and students on the autism spectrum—participate in restorative circles and community-building activities that strengthen our connections. However, our walls need to reinforce important messages of belonging, respect, and growth.
To address this, I plan to use a computerized precision carving tool to transform our physical environment. Students will help design and make signs featuring restorative language used in our circles, such as "How did that make you feel?" and translations of "You make the world a better place" in different languages. Additionally, older students will create guides for younger students, "Buddies," practicing calming strategies.
These signs will reflect actual student conversations and needs, serving as visible reminders of our restorative practices. With your support, our school environment will embody our mission of fostering an inclusive and supportive community where every student can thrive.
