This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are active, curious learners who connect best with history when they can experience it in interactive and creative ways. To help bring our 7th grade curriculum to life, I’m requesting support for culturally relevant sports equipment, a classroom microphone set, inclusive history books, and a Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) gift card to access high-quality, ready-to-use instructional resources.

We’ll use lacrosse sticks to explore the origins of the game in Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) culture—learning how it was played as “The Creator’s Game,” a sacred tradition tied to healing, diplomacy, and identity.

Students will also investigate the ancient Mesoamerican rubber ball game, using a classroom-safe rubber ball and visual references to understand its spiritual and political significance in Maya and Aztec civilizations.

A wireless microphone system will allow students to present their research, narrate role-plays, and participate in classroom debates with clarity and confidence—making our space more interactive and inclusive for all voices.

The history books included in this project will bring diverse and often underrepresented stories into our curriculum, helping students see how cultures have used sports across time to pass down traditions, assert power, and build community.

Additionally, the TPT gift card will allow me to purchase engaging, standards-aligned lessons, simulations, and creative project templates from fellow educators. These ready-to-use materials will save time and provide my students with fresh, high-interest activities that deepen understanding while keeping them actively involved in their learning.
