My students are English Language Learners in kindergarten through fifth grade who attend a suburban school near a major city. Their families come from various countries, such as China, Germany, and Switzerland. Many of my students are newcomers to this country who arrive at school with limited English skills. They are working hard to learn English.
My students are so enthusiastic about learning in a new country!
They participate in all the subjects as other students, and they have a desire to be successful.
Can you imagine how it feels to go to school in a country where you do not know the language? You might feel frustrated at your inability to understand and communicate. My students who are new to this country sometimes feel this way.
A language translator will give them access to academic content while they are learning English.
This device would allow them to understand their classroom lessons. The language translator can record a teacher's lessons in English, and my students can play the lesson back and hear it in their own language. This translator will also show the text of what is said on the screen so students can read it in their first language. In addition, it can help them participate in small group work with their classmates since it can translate what is said within the group. Because the translator is portable, students can even take it to their special classes, such as art and music.
