Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 26 eager, active, and inquisitive 2nd graders. My students come from homes where parents have more than one job. Some come from single parent family homes, and some even share their homes with relatives.
I teach at a Title I school where all children receive free lunch.
My students are always eager to learn, despite the fact that they have limited resources at home. Some of my students are English language learners. They face many challenges in school and outside of school. Some even have to deal with the fact that they have learning disabilities.
When my students come into my classroom, I want them to feel successful. Whenever I can, and with the limited resources that I have available for them, I try to provide them with as many hands-on experiences as possible.
My Project
My students need magnetic letter kits to practice their spelling during word study. My students are all at different stages of spelling. Instead of giving them all the same spelling list, I place them in groups according to the spelling stage in which they are in. The magnetic letters will help my students practice spelling patterns at their level.
These magnetic letters will help my students with building word knowledge which they can apply to both reading and writing.
These magnetic letter kits will be used daily by my students and will benefit them in the future. Knowing the correct spelling patters will not only help them improve their writing but also their reading skills.
