Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The literacy curriculum my school uses is really interesting, but sometimes my students have a hard time understanding the concepts of ecosystems and the animals that live there. I have found that when they have a physical representation of the animal, they can place them in the correct environment. Similarly, when asked to write stories about these creatures, they have a difficult time formulating the ideas in words, but are more than happy to act out a story using the minimal number of figures I have available. My goal is to have these manipulatives available to all students that need them to support their access to the curriculum in a robust way.
My students are the coolest, most incredible kids, and they deserve the same chance to learn as every other student.
By receiving these manipulative figures, my students will be able to not only engage in the curriculum, but will be successful in understanding it. They will make stories, share with classmates, and learn how different animals live in their respective environments and what adaptations have helped those animals succeed, and will do it in their general education classroom, as they should be.
