This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of wonderful and resilient Kindergarteners. I'm excited to provide the foundational skills for our students. Right now, I have 16 students, but as we return to the building, it could increase. The majority of the students at our school are English Language Learners. Many of my students speak little to no English. A lot of these students face financial distress as well as other unimaginable obstacles. Over 90% of the students qualify for ESOL services and free lunch. Nevertheless, they are always smiling, readying to learn, and persevering through changes or obstacles. My goal is to make learning effective, yet enjoyable for them, especially since this will be the first experience many of them will have with structured learning and school.

My Project

Our students will have the option of returning to the building this month for face-to-face learning. Most of these items will be used in the classroom only. They will remain in the classroom so that the students do not have to worry about hauling them back and forth between home and school. However, some of my families have decided to continue virtually and I will be sending home a kit with manipulatives so that they can fully participate from home.

Your donation will ensure that the students and I can return to a better-protected and socially-distanced environment in which everyone can feel safe to learn.

My Kindergarten classroom has tables. Since there are no additional individual desks, we will socially distance and use the desktop sneeze guards for extra protection at the tables. The lanyards will be used for QR codes and lunch numbers to ensure contact-less transitions. The fanny packs will be used to keep the students' travel-size hand sanitizers, extra masks, and any other pocket resources that they may need to keep close. Lastly, the plastic mesh zipper pouches and meal prep containers will be used for the students' individual supplies (i.e. crayons, pencils, scissors, glue, and possibly papers) and the meal prep containers will contain their individual learning kits with manipulatives and miniature charts.
