This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My awesome second graders come from a very low socioeconomic background with some falling below the poverty line. They are mainly English language learners (80%) and many of them live in homes which house multiple families under the same roof. On average, 2-3 students in my classroom are considered homeless and struggle to find suitable housing. They qualify for assistance through The McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Some of these seven- and eight-year-olds have the sole responsibility of taking care of their younger siblings while their parents are working, with many occupying more than one job. Others are latchkey children.

Our school is Title I and 80% of the children receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.

My children have extremely limited access to technology in their homes, yet with all these obstacles, my students come to school with much enthusiasm and an eager desire to learn. As a teacher I am very passionate about bringing STEAM to my classroom on a weekly basis. I feel that STEM provides students with the 4 C's: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and communication.

My Project

I am requesting the Cricut Easy Press 2, mats, transfer tape and vinyl sheets. These items would be a great addition to our classroom. The Cricut Easy Press 2 will complement the Cricut Maker Machine to enhance the print-rich environment and other classroom projects. Also the Cricut Easy Press 2 will allow my students to design and create STEAM projects and other amazing activities. In addition to this, they can design and create T-shirt logos for our school field trips, kindness week, Earth Day and other special events. The possibilities are endless. Will you help bring the love of creativity back to the classroom?
