Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I currently teach Preschool at an inner-city school. I teach two half day sessions consisting of twenty students in each class. My program is considered a blended program, which means that 1/3 of each class consists of students with special needs.
For many of the parents in my classroom, this is not only the first school experience for their children, but this is their first experience working with teachers and their children in an academic fashion. My parents are learning the routines of school, the expectations of preschool, and the commitment it takes between teachers and parents to have a successful school year. Many of my parents do not speak English and this language barrier can often cause a disconnect between home and school.
Strongly believing that the first step to educating children is to educate their parents, I envision a Parent Lending Library that is rich with resources for parents to use at home. Currently, I have a Parent Lending Library, but lack the Spanish resources needed to have items available for all the parents of my students.
I am asking for Spanish books to add to my existing library. I am asking for books that give parents tips on how to raise responsible children, discipline with dignity, and provide first aide through the early years of life.
While you will not be providing books for the children, these resources will greatly impact the children because you will enable their parents to be the teachers. Empower these parents! Give them the chance to be informed!
