Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are always eager to learn. Many are students who speak anywhere from no English to a good understanding of English, and usually speak another language primarily. The children are so eager to learn. They pair up quickly to help those who need it.
The neighborhood is economically and culturally diverse but some families are at a financial and social disadvantage.
My students do not have many opportunities outside the classroom and love learning through hands-on projects during science. We are developing a computer science and STEM program in our school and inviting our parents as well in part with the CS4ALL initiative.
I know coding, stem and engineering will drive the future for our children and I would love to give them the advantage.
My Project
Teachers are always looking for ways to involve the parents in what their students are learning. In this day and age, the students are being taught subjects like math completely different from how they learned it when they were in school. Parents are invited in to watch a lesson or possibly listen to a story and make a craft. While this is great since parents are VIP's, how can we make it even more special?
What if the children teach the parents - in subjects like Math and Reading??!!
Teachers can assign an activity that relates to what the children are learning in school. After school, families get a message - it is compatible with any device - and open the link to find a project to work on with their child - and the child is the teacher. This program is available in many languages - thank goodness - and the teacher can see the reports when the work is complete. What an amazing way to involve even the busiest families.
