Pardon Our Learning, We Need Partition Boards!

My Students

I am the intervention specialist in a second grade full inclusion classroom. Not only do I co-teach in the classroom, I also manage the IEPs and goals of the nine students with disabilities. In the school system where I teach, more than half of our students are low-income students. More often than not, some of my students come to school without even their most basic needs being met. Even with these barriers, this does not stop my amazing students from coming to school eager and anxious to learn and be the best they can be!

My students' disabilities range from mild to intensive, so I strive to make sure all of my students learn, no matter their ability level, in this setting.

There is a lot of differentiated teaching and learning going on throughout the day to make sure I am meeting the needs of all of the students. This typically means I need to make sure I have a variety of resources at my fingertips to be able to provide my students with everything they need to be able to learn. My goal is to set them up to be independent, contributing members to society in the future!

My Project

We teach in a full inclusion, second grade classroom. My students with disabilities are exposed to the general education curriculum while modifications and accommodations are provided to best meet their needs. WIth that being said, many of my students are highly distracted during whole group read alouds and when taking assessments. Additionally, some of my students need sensory breaks to release built up energy throughout the day. We do all of these tasks in my resource room. The resource room currently houses a copier, and a dance class each morning. It is also used with various people and students taking short assessments or breaks throughout the day.

Some days I feel as though my resource room isn't accessible and therefore, I cannot provide my students with access to a private, quiet, learning environment or a place to take a much needed sensory break.

I would love to put up partition boards to divide part of the room into our own little section. The Mobile Room Dividers would be great assets to the resource room as they can be easily moved when the dance class is in there and I can design the space as needed.

These boards also have a dual purpose and can be used as whiteboards! There is so much that can be done with a whiteboard in the classroom! Not to mention, I could wheel these down to our general education classroom and utilize them during whole group discussions and lessons as well as small group practice for force and motion STEM magnet lessons. They love learning about force and motion during our STEM units. It is challenging to demonstrate whole group magnetic lessons because we currently have 1 small whiteboard for everyone to share. This would be an amazing addition to both classrooms for so many great uses!
