This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are part of a school that aims to see every student succeed regardless of their background. Our kindergarten is composed of 27 students with diverse language and learning needs. They are a creative, happy, and curious group. They enjoy leaning through doing and are amazed by the world around them. Their problem solving skills continue to amaze me as they come up with ingenious ways to solve simple problems. In our short time together I have seen their language and vocabulary soar.
My Project
Nelson Mandela once said that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." It's easy to see this quote and immediately think of change in social issues, politics and the likes, but now more and more it's easy to think of all the mind dazzling innovations which have been created recently.
What better way to help children literally change the world than by introducing children to open their minds through the use of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)?
To test the possibilities of what is and can be? I have seen that my students learn best through doing. I have seen that they are more open to a challenge through doing. These resources will help my student become explorers, innovators, and problem solvers. The lego, STEM, gears and engineering sets will help them create and practice putting their ideas to work. The art supplies will help enhance their creativity while the stools and the bookshelf will help us create a work and research space. All these resources will be part of or STEAM center, a center I plan on incorporating into our daily center routine.
