My Students
Hello everyone! I am an English teacher at Constitution High School in Philadelphia, a diverse college-preparatory public school. I teach English 2 and 3. Our school is dedicated to empowering students through active citizenship. Through our unique approach, we hope to develop the next generation of engaged citizens as well as leaders in government, public policy, and law. My students come from multiple neighborhoods in Philadelphia and claim a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. They are enthusiastic and have a passion for learning!
My Project
Our high school's devotion to culturally responsive teaching means adding a wide range of diverse literature to our curriculum. This year, my students will be reading a unit on dystopian literature.
I am requesting a classroom set of Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler for our dystopian literature unit.
Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower is regarded as one of the pioneers of dystopian literature and provides a diverse, multicultural voice to my students' classroom.
By funding this project, you are helping to make my classroom a place where literature thrives and my students feel seen and represented in the books we are reading. Please consider funding this project so my students may read from a physical copy of the book rather than with an online ebook.
