My students need a variety of paper to use for brainstorming, projects, and visual representations of their learning. We need drawing paper, cardstock, construction paper, and post-it sticky notes.
In our classroom we work hard to improve as confident, skilled, self-motivated learners. Collaborative and cooperative learning consistently takes place in the classroom. The classroom is about nurturing the whole student and supporting them in their journey to become a global citizen.
"Obstacles, of course, are developmentally necessary: they teach kids strategy, patience, critical thinking, resilience and resourcefulness." Naomi Wolf.
My students are an enthusiastic, energetic, passionate group of students who come from all walks of life. They are constantly trying to better themselves and the world around them. The school community is incredibly supportive of nurturing students to be critical and creative thinkers. The students are always up for a challenge and work hard to solve any problem that is set in front of them. Our school is a collaborative environment for both students and staff. The staff works hard to guide students in making connections between subjects. We want students to see learning as a whole, not as individual subjects that are not connected.
My Project
We are constantly asking students to create items to represent their learning. This could be in the form of a comic strip, poster, PSA, etc... all of these visual representations require a variety of paper to create.
Colorful paper allows students to create eye catching posters and PSAs that are displayed in the hallways of the school.
Students are required to think about the message that the color choices send and how to efficiently communicate a message with words and color.
Having a variety of paper will allow students to synthesize content learned in a way that is meaningful and authentic.
