My Students

I teach 400 PreK to 6th graders! They are always asking me questions, and they are so curious to learn new things. This school is an inner city school with high poverty.

One hundred percent of our students receive free lunch.

Ninety-nine percent of the students are minorities. These students have so much promise and I want to do everything I can to get them the best future. I appreciate, and I know all of the school community would appreciate, any help for these children. They deserve to have all of the opportunities as 21st century learners!

My Project

In my technology class I have each grade level research something that's in their Science or Social Studies curriciulium. I teach them the importance of researching and finding proper information online. I show them the online encylopedias and kid friendly research websites. First graders learn about animals, Second graders learn about weather, Third grade learns about their local city, Fourth graders learn about inventors. Once they get older I show them how to figure out how to find proper information online and they have to build their own black history website about the person they research. They also research famous musicians and the instruments they start learning to play in fifth grade too.

Did you know that by writing down facts will help you retain the information longer?

I love the computer and information that is at the tip of my fingerprints, but I also have a love of writing on paper too. I want to teach my students how to properly research, write down their research, and be able to present what they find to their classes in different types of presentations (google slides, powerpoint, video, story, play, etc.). Every student has different needs and I have noticed that my students have been asking me more recently to be able to have paper and pencil available so that they are able to write down their facts.
